Melt is a focus timer. This policy explains exactly what data is collected, why, and how it is used.
Short version: your session data never leaves your device. The only third party involved is Google AdMob, which serves the banner ad that keeps Melt free.
1. Data we do not collect
Melt does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your location (no GPS access whatsoever)
- Health or fitness data
- Photos, contacts, calendar, or files
- Usage analytics sent to our servers — we run no servers at all
All session data (timer history, settings, streak, chosen object) is stored locally on your device only, using the operating system's own storage. It never leaves your device and we have no way to read it.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Melt displays a single banner ad to support the free version of the app. Ads are provided by Google AdMob.
AdMob may collect and use:
- Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) — a resettable device identifier used to serve ads
- Approximate location — derived from your IP address, not GPS
- Device information — model, OS version, screen size
Non-personalised ads
Melt requests ads with requestNonPersonalizedAdsOnly enabled, which limits ad personalisation.
App Tracking Transparency
On iOS 14 and later, Melt asks for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency dialog before any ad is loaded. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
For details on how Google uses this data, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses data from apps.
3. Notifications
Melt uses local notifications, delivered entirely on-device, to let you know when your focus session ends. No notification data is sent to any server. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → Melt.
4. Data retention and deletion
Because everything is stored locally, you are always in full control. You can delete all your data by:
- Using Reset history in the app's Settings screen
- Uninstalling the app, which removes all stored data
5. Children
Melt is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The advertising SDK is configured to request non-personalised ads only.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will always reflect the current version. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
